for combining shameless self-promotion with being Nice.

If anyone just happens to be giving one of my books as a gift this season, and would like a signed/personalized bookplate to go with it, just drop me a line at wren_sergei [at] comcast.net, and I'll send it out the very next day.

(I should also point out that all of my books and a lot of my short fiction is available via download from Fictionwise for your tech-minded yet fiction-loving gift recipients. I can't sign those, unfortunately...)

While I'm avoiding Amazon (seeing my books break 1000 makes me nervous and twitchy), I'm trolling Fictionwise. Which is how I discovered that I'm currently holding down the #1 spot (for "Palimpsest") and the #10 position (for "Disposession") on the 'under $1' bestseller list.

Huh. "Palimpseset" is #2 on the mystery bestseller list. Between Patricia Cornwall and Jeffery Deaver? *snorts*

And Staying Dead is still up there at #7 for fantasy novels -- and #4 on 'highest rated' e-books! Man, I'm feeling the love, which is making me cranky because it's too warm here and I have too much to do and I want to be in a bad mood, damn it, but all these warm fuzzies are throwing me off...

ETA: Mind you, it's all still "most popular redheaded left handed" etc. But wee warm fuzzies are warm fuzzies nonetheless. Although, considering the weather, cool fuzzies would be more appreicated. Or how about a nice tall glass of iced tea with fresh lime, rought to me on a silver platter by an attentive cabana boy.... what? As long as I'm asking, can't hurt to ask proper, can it?

So, Staying Dead is #7 on the Fictionwise fantasy list. It's a small list in a small pond, but it pleases me nonetheless. The reader review -- only one, but they liked it, they really liked it! -- pleases me even more.

And, for those of you craving that next Wren Valere fix, the short story "Palimpsest" (from Powers of Detection) is also up on Fictionwise, and only 64 cents! Go, read. Hey, Publishers Weekly liked it, so will you!

In fact, read 'em all, they're short. I'll write more. ;-)

My short story "Site Fourteen" is now available on Fictionwise.

It's a cool little story. Go'wan, you know you wanna read it....

Oh, also, got a nice reviewer mention for "Clean Up Your Room," the audio version (available at Escape Pod) "The story I am hearing is a top notch piece of science fiction....I totally feel this story - I’m not good at visualization, but I can picture this whole scene beautifully." *is quietly pleased, but admits some of the credit goes to the audio talent who voiced M.U.M. and Jessy*.

ETA: and for those who like feline updates, Pandora has (after a day of abasement on my part, and being able to sleep on my pillow all night) forgiven me, and now Boomer is doing stroll-by muggings to reassure himself that I'm really truly home and my hair tastes the same. Idiot cat.

One of the things that sidetracked me this week was getting interviewed by the fine if somewhat odd folk of Dragon Page, for their syndicated radio show/podcast "Cover to Cover." Should air sometime mid-October. Info to follow on Dragon Page.

Did I babble? Did I say anything they had to bleep? You'll have to listen in to find out.

other stuff of semi-note )

And while Sunday was given over to other things (cricket, Katrina-worries, Other Obligations) today it's Monday again. Back to work I go...
