I almost never take an entire day off. I will often go off and do something non-writerly for the day, but always with the back of my brain thinking "and when I get home I need to..."

Saturday was so gorgeous, with the return of perfect autumn weather (blue skies, low 70's, slight breeze off the water) that I decided on waking that this was going to be a day to refill the creative well. No work at all, just play.

So I got in the car and headed north to a local wine and food festival. The wines, as expected, were ordinary although not overpriced, but the food merchants there were quite good, and I ended up taking home a number of different types of gourmet mustards and olive oils for restocking the kitchen. And the grounds were so pretty I just sat at a table in the sun and listened to the wine maker talk about his wines and the perils of New England wine-making. I also took a tour of the grounds and poked around the destemming machine, almost getting conscripted to join the harvet next week (if I weren't so busy, I'd have taken them up on it).

[some of you may have seen a flaw with my 'no work' rule. I swear, I didn't take any notes or ask any questions relating to That Project]

After, I headed east to a store I'd heard of, featuring local craftspeople, and did minor damage there [planning to go back closer to the holidays], also helping to get a low-flying bird out of the store. Stopped for home-churned ice cream. Then I figured, what the hell, I'm just down the road from Foxwoods....

I love playing blackjack, I really do. I especially love it when I win. *g*

Foxwoods is quite the complex -- not as tic-tacky arrogant as AC, and not as homahgod dollar almighty as Vegas, but an interesting mix of self-aware and spangles. And on a perfect autumn day, the countryside around it was to-die-for gorgeous.

(hey Terri -- Steven Wright's up there on the 12th. Just sayin'...)

And then I came home and made a kickass dinner and had a glass of kickass wine [note to self; remember when pouring into your new burgundy-sized glasses that 1/3 the glass is more than it was in your smaller glasses!], and watched the repeat of the premiere of 'Chuck' [very cute, if a little flinch-worthy. Now that they've gotten the set-up set-up, I think it's going to be adorable].

And then I pulled up the laptop and started typing up responses-to-the-agent's-thoughts on The New Project. *sigh* But hey, I made it to 10pm! And was asleep by 11. Marvel at the exhaustion.

This morning I slept in to the decadent hour of 8:30am, waking to discover that the felines had decided that it was, yes, cold enough to shut the windows in the bedroom. Or at least snuggle reeeeeealclose to mom. Up, fed, caffinated, and back to reality (aka working). But it was fun, if odd, while it lasted.

meanwhile: baaaa, sheeep.
