catching up on some tag-memes:
From Kefira, 5 Questions
1. What place do you most regret not visiting? (present-day, not in a time-travel sort of sense of "I would have loved to see X before Y happened long ago...")
Hrmmm. I don’t really regret not visiting anywhere, because I have plans to visit so many places yet that regret isn’t a factor. I suppose I regret that Petra isn’t higher up on the list -- I have a story set there that remains unfinished, in part because I _know_ there’s a sense of the place I’m missing. Plus, tres nifty.
2. If you could pick one gem for the center stone of a fabulous piece of jewelry of choice (necklace, ring, brooch, whatever), what gem would you choose and why? Assume money is no object but you can't have the Hope Diamond or something like that.*grin*
A green sapphire. It's not the most expensive or impressive of gemstones, but there’s something about the way sapphires glow when cut properly that draws me in, and that particular shade has always spoken to me – a deep-sea green of depth and shadows. My element may be earth, but earth needs water to define it.
3. What food dish has eluded mastery for you as a cook?
I’d say risotto because I’m never quite satisfied, even though people tell me it’s damn near perfect. But probably it's cakes. I don’t understand it – I can make a soufflé that won’t fall, but I cannot bake a cake of proper consistency. I’m just not born to be a baker.
4. If for some reason you absolutely could not work as a writer/editor--rocks fell, everyone died, whatever--what would you choose as a new way of making a living at this point in your life?
Office manager for a creative services office (in short, my part time job now, writ full time). It’s a lot like editing – keeping creative people focused and on deadline, while making sure the necessary details get taken care of in the meanwhile – only without having to go to sales conference.
5. What do you feel you know least about me? (And no, the physical doesn't count.*grin*)
Oh, there’s much I don’t know.
And
juliannef reportedly tagged me:
• Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
• People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
• At the end of your blog, you need to choose (8) people to get tagged and list their names.
• Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.
1. I used to bite my nails down to the bloody quick.
2. I hate tanning (direct sunlight gives me a headache, but it’s also boring. And the headache means I can’t read for long, to stave off the boring)
3. I would (and have) done anything for a friend – but I’ve learned to be selective of who I define as a ‘friend’ versus ‘social acquaintance’ or ‘playmate’ out of self-preservation.
4. I am missing the fannish gene. Really. I can enjoy something, or be a fan of someone’s work, but I can’t quite kick over into emotional squee/even borderline obsession.
5. My favorite place in the entire world is on the island of St. Maarten.
6. I may be addicted to cheese. Real cheese, not that abomination processed sliced food product. Goat’s milk cheese, cow’s milk cheese, even sheep’s milk cheese if done well. Not so much yak’s milk cheese although I’ve only ever had yak milk once so who knows?
7. I am a recovering bulimic.
8. Sitcoms (and any comedic situation based on humiliating or belittling a character) make me cringe, no matter how well-acted or written they are. I just can’t see it as entertainment.
