feeding the proofs

Proofing proofing, a-proofing I go... at the halfway mark, and the book don't seem to suck. This pleases and reassures me. It is also very nice to be rereading this book while I'm writing the first draft of the next book. Making notes so I (hopefully) don't screw anything up going forward.
ETA: Ooops. Need to rewrite the scene in Book 5 I just wrote. Drat. Well, better to know it now, while the paint's still fresh...
Meanwhile, it's rainy and ick and the cold snap will come tomorrow, when it will be dry. Snow conspires against me. *grump* But it's lunchtime in January, so I'm making peasant winter food. Today, herbed potatoes and hot sausage, with peppers. mmmm....
Take half a dozen small potatoes (any sort, depending on availability/preference). Slice to 1/5 inch thickness, more or less. Toss with olive oil and sweet vinegar, whatever dried herbs you happen to like, salt and pepper. Bake on a cookie sheet at 300 degrees until golden and crisped. Meanwhile, take three hot sausages and slice lengthwise, grill (with pppers, if desired). Chop the sausages and toss with potatoes. Serve hot, or set aside for a later room-temperature meal.
Warning: this meal WILL induce a nap, if you're not careful!
