And lo, I have been given my marching orders for Worldcon, as follows:
(bold is final. Unbolded is tentative)
Thur 8/24 afternoon: arrival and bar-breaking-in.
Thur 8/24 9PM I am going to try and get up a rematch of24 Beers and a Story. Any victims volunteers? If not, I may go to Disneyland. Someone alert Security.
Fri 8/25 11:00 AM KAFFEKLATSCH
Come see the meerkat with her primary sustenance: caffeine. Ask questions. Take pictures. Wish her happy birthday! (yes, it will be my birthday. NO SINGING!)
Fri 8/25 12 Noon, AUTOGRAPHING
Fri 8/25 4:00 PM, COMMERCE & ART: CENSORSHIP OR COMMERCIAL REALITY
Precis: Some editors/publishers just don't like what you have to say. Is that censorship? Some don't want to publish anything controversial, to face the potential wrath of the Fundamentalists or the Parent Groups. It's their money;isn't it their choice?
Heee. Gonna have FUN with this one....
Sat 8/26 11:30 AM, EDITING: THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY
Precis: Come and hear stories about edits which went above and beyond clarity and reason. Writers discuss different editing styles they've encountered and talk about some of the good and bad experiences they've had with editors(names will be changed to protect the innocent).
Me. Peter Beagle. Tim Powers. Betsy Mitchell. I suspect NO names will be changed to protect ANYbody...
Sat 8/26 2:30 PM, CARE AND FEEDING OF THE CREATIVE PROCESS
Precis: What sort of actions and environments are most conducive to getting and staying productive? How do you tell being blocked from being too tired?
I'm moderating this one. Come prepared to take notes. There may be a quiz, after.
Sat 8/26 5:00 PM, READING
I have no idea what I will be reading. Possibly a new short story, but I might be coaxed into giving a very early teaser from BURNING BRIDGES (aka Retriever #4)....
In addition, I will be (wo)manning the SFWA table in the dealers room at several points during the weekend. Stop by, shoot the breeze, have a book signed, pick up some info on Science Fiction Writers of America, etc. It may be the only time all weekend you get to see me sitting (relatively) still!
I suspect that I will also be participating in the SFWA Charity Auction, as usual. Come one, come all, come with your cash and checkbooks.... If there's interest, I will be offering the chance to be either a Dead Body or a new species of Fatae in the sixth (and as of yet untitled) Retriever novel...
