weekend roundup

I had, a while back,d ecided that this would be a Work-Free weekend. And so it was.
Friday night I was supposed to go see "The Princess Bride" showing on an outdoor screen in the Green, but -- knowing I had a bunch of people arriving the next day for a party -- I opted for staying home. Then the laptop died. Y'all know the rest.
Saturday I woke early and ordered the new laptop. yay! It's already through the kitting process and into boxing. I have hopes of seeing it soon. Then I ran around like a semi-prepared thing, getting ready for the party.
This was the first time in, hrm, almost two years that I've thrown an actual party (as opposed to 'people ending up hanging out' and I was wondering if I still had It. The party started at 2pm. Most folk stayed until around 9pm. I ended the party by the simple expedient of going to sleep sometime around 1:30am. I think maybe it was successful. *grin* Despite the fact that I don't have air conditioning, and everyone seemed intent on gathering in one room rather than splitting into smaller groups in still-cool rooms...
(silly people. although those of us who went onto the porch were rewarded by His Goofiness the Boomer-cat making nice among his subjects)
For those interested, the menu:
cibbata sandwhiches of roast beef, cheddar and tropical chutney, and turkey with tomato and honey-dijon mustard.
a home-made salmon mousse-thing on cucumber slices
spicy chicken wings (I cheated here and ordered those from the place around the corner that specializs in 'em)
arcaedia brought bruschetta topped with shrimp and a surprisingly tasty pureed bean-thing topping.
for dessert we had several types if cheeses (including an Epoisse, which was brought in a pressurized cannister, for good reason. I love stinky cheeses, but maybe they should be kept for cooler temps....), fresh fruit, brownies from another guest, chocolate chip cookies, and a berries-and-yogurt pastry thing I threw together that was really good, and surprisingly easy to make. Oh, and ice cream..
This morning, remaining party-goers and I went out for breakfast (I was decadent and had french toast with real syrup and cinnamon and yum, and the diet begins NOW), then walked around town to do some store-browsing and sight-seeing before Guests caught the train home. I then had to go show an apartment to prospective renters as part of the Occasional Employment. I am constantly amused at the things I'm picking up, skill-wise.
And now we face two days of 90+ temps before the weather is (please god) supposed to break [ETA: 96! It's supposed to be 96! tomorrow. And 98 on Tuesday]. I think I hear the beach calling my name, tomorrow. Or maybe I'll go see "PotC2" again....
For now, I think I need to join the felines in falling over and going flat.
