how to distract a meerkat from writing -- give her something to research )

Today, alas, no distractions. There is so much to be done today all I want to do is stay in bed and enjoy the nice cool air coming in through the windows. 'Tis not to be. There is writing, and freelance editing, real-life paperwork and day-job stuff, and a postal run, and CGAG writers' group tonight.... and the gym calls. I am tempted to let that call go to voice mail.

Meanwhile, I have been given some very nice reader e-mails, talking favorably about my portrayal of Sergei as a hero without being a stud (softening midriff, not always perfect in bed, etc). One of the few things I find difficult in writing paranormals as Anna Leonard is keeping my characters true to the romantic idealization -- Sergei was never idealized for me, even when he was just a figment of what-if. I couldn't care so much about him if he didn't have flaws.

In fiction, as in life, perfection is not only boring, but annoying.

Oh, and it has been confirmed by Madame Editrix that Free Fall will be out in May 2008. ISBN 13: 978-0-373-80267-8 Just thought I'd slip that in there to see who's paying attention....
lauraanne_gilman: (brain. hurts.)
Note to self: saying "I need to eat something that isn't coffee" around 1pm, when you've been up since 6am, is a warning sign. I repeat: A WARNING SIGN.

Second warning sign: the only thing not-coffee in the house is salad and a half-empty jar of peanut butter. Added a grocery store run to the to-do list today, so now at least there's red meat in the freezer, and pasta on the shelves.

Have written 3100 words today, progressed further in moving the office of Occasional Employment to the new locale, and been through a writers' group meeting. Feel like an old rag, well-wrung.

I also feel like I should be saying something witty, or insightful, or at very least useful in this space, but everything I know is such obviousness to me, I can't imagine why anyone would be interested. So tell me what it is you want from my brain. Open thread time!

And of possible interest to, well, me: ESPN has acquired both Cricinfo.com and Scrum.net. Oy. Must...resist...timesinks... (it's not that I love either sport madly; I just can't stand there being things out there that I haven't -- given the chance -- at least poked around in a little. No such thing as too broad a knowlege base)

/random sundriness.
