Is anyone else bothered that Bush has chosen his former personal lawyer, a woman with no judicial experience whatsoever, for a position on the Supreme Court?

She may be a fabulous person. She may even have political and judicial views I agree with (Haven't read enough to know). But personally? I think you should have gotten in some actual job experience behind the Big Desk before you get to wear the Big Black Robe of a Supreme.

But maybe that's just me.

ETA: to clarify my position on this -- for the State level, I have fewer/no problems with a relatively inexperienced lawyer with credentials being appointed. But at the Federal level? A person of any political stripe, appointed by any political stripe, without experience or significant creds? Nuh-uh...

Actor and comedian, dead at age 80. I knew him mainly as the Tn Man in The Wiz, but was blown away by what he did with that role. According to news reports, he never married and leaves behind no known family. So light a candle for him, to speed him on his way and remember him to the world.

Apropos of current days, one of his better known quips:

"The opposite of pro is con/ That fact is clearly seen/ If progress means move forward/ Then what does Congress mean?"

Got my copies of Young Warriors in the mail. Two copies -- one the trade edition hardcover, the other the library edition (one has a paper dustjacket, the other's printed over board). Very nice. And the stories within are all quite excellent -- it's a damn good collection. Not jsut me saying that, either -- it's already gotten a great Kirkus review, and is a BBYA 2006 Nominee.

I'd enjoy it a lot more if I didn't also get another present -- a nasty yellowjacket sting on the ring finger of my right hand which has made holding a pencil (to do the line edit that was on tonight's agenda) impossible. *snarl*

At least I can still type, although slowly. Stupid yellowjckets.
