description of this morning's work so far:

"We've recapped the first four books in the form of an argument between a girl and her demon, and the demon has made coffee." [livejournal.com profile] novel_in_90 quota met.

My to-do list for the rest of the morning has such glorious things on it as "get laundry out of dryer," "clean den," and "pay bills." Also "herd cats re: dinner." And all the ingredients for winter pesto are waiting for me to get up the energy. Pesto. Mmmmm.

This afternoon, Lily Malkin gets the shit kicked out of her by a madman, and channels her external goddess.

I love my job. Even the parts I hate.

oh, and I woke up this morning feeling as though someone had come in during the night and excavated my lungs. This pleases me. I may become healthy again at some point... (ETA: for those suffering likewise, I remind you that DAIRY IS BAD. It thickens the secretions and makes you cough harder, etc. Lay off the cheese, milk and whatnot for a few days...)

I must be getter better. I was actually able to sit on the sofa and not fall over into a coma for two hours at a time (which is how I spent most of yesterday). I even went out and ran (okay, walked) a few errands. Still coughing, but everything else seems to be normalizing, and I didn't need meds this afternoon (does anyone else have really bad reaction to cough drops? They make me choke. Weird). Still not healthy enough to do anything more complicated than heating up soup, though. I have all these lovely groceries in my fridge, and I swear they're taunting me....

The writing seems to be split thus: Retrievers in the morning, and The Night Serpent in the late afternoon/evening.

DOWN INTO DARKNESS is well underway -- the first chapter has been written, which means we're about to get dumped headfirst into the mess left by BURNING BRIDGES. Taking the time off was a good idea -- I find myself enthused about seeing the gang again, rather than dreading it.

(yes, there comes a point where you dread facing your characters. Not because you suddenly love them less, but you KNOW their story already, and the thought of hearing them whine One. More. Time....)

As for TNS -- I think that I've solved the continuity problem that was dogging me. Now I have to settle the timing of the moon phases to my satisfaction. The next chunk has gone to my writers' group for considered abuse, and then I get to write the Heroine Kicks Ass, Hero Helps Her Save The World scene. And then the aftermath, and it's a Draft. Oooo, I just gave myself chills.

If the contract doesn't get here this week, my editor owes me a single malt...

(in case anyone's wondering, I have basketball on the tv for my background noise. I hate basketball, but the football game ended, the remote is broken, and I have a Pandora sleeping on my leg. I need to train Boomer to change channels...)
