from the AP wire: LOS ANGELES - A federal judge struck down President Bush's authority to designate groups as terrorists, saying his post-Sept. 11 executive order was unconstitutionally vague, according to a ruling released Tuesday.
...The judge's 45-page ruling was a reversal of her own tentative findings last July in which she indicated she would uphold wide powers asserted by Bush under an anti-terror financing law. She delayed her ruling then to allow more legal briefs to be filed.
She also struck down the provision in which Bush had authorized the secretary of the treasury to designate anyone who "assists, sponsors or provides services to" or is "otherwise associated with" a designated group.
However, she let stand sections of the order that penalize those who provide "services" to designated terrorist groups. She said such services would include the humanitarian aid and rights training proposed by the plaintiffs.
In 2004, (Judge) Collins ruled that portions of the Patriot Act were too vague and, even after Congress amended the act in 2005, she ruled the provisions remained too vague to be understood by a person of average intelligence and were therefore unconstitutional.

Was supposed to go out and shoot some pool, but the call of Shit That Needs Doing was too great, as CGAG meets tomorrow and I had only read one of the two submissions (oher than my own, natch). I am Virtuous. Also, had no desire to get my ass whupped by the sharks who call themselves my friends. And also? Am feeling somwhat bah humbuggy and didn't want to bring them down, too.
So I stayed in, worked, and watched tv with the cats.
NCIS: first person to even suggest Gibbs/Ducky will be force-fed lye. Urk. Also, DiNozzo? in lurve? Is such a terrifying thing. Especially since he's being an Adult about it. Please, god-of-telly? No Ponderosa Syndrome, 'k?
House: As someone who suffers chronic pain, I can only say that I was about to empty out my own medicine cabinet for the guy. Ow. Also, can you people not use your degrees to see that a) he's in agony [enough to say what he did to Cuddy] and b) he shouldn't be working? And c) he was just waiting for one of them to spill all and save all?
Loved the thirty pieces of silver line.
Taste of America: great. Now I want whitefish caviar. This show gives me more food cravings than pregnancy.
And if I never see another "Lexus for Christmas" ad, it will be too soon.
Bah. Also humbug.
