mother's day report

Happy mother's day, to all who are, or had, or live with one...
This morning, my folks came up a) to see the new place, b) to leave their car with me prior to their heading off to Alaska for vacation, and c) to foist a new-apartment-warming gift on me. I woke early, because my mother's "we'll get there mid-morning" could be anywhere from 9:30 to 11. It ended up being closer to 11 -- I'd forgotten my dad was driving. *grin*
We went to Zinc, because I am a good daughter-child and my foodie inclinations didn't come out of thin air, damn it. Had two small plates: smoked duck nachos with chipolte aioli on fried wonton skins, followed by Saigon beef in lettuce wraps with a chile-garlic sauce. Oh. God. My mom had the nachos also, followed by smoked short ribs in a five-spice pomegranite sauce, while my dad did the large plate thing with spiced panko-crusted grouper with some kind of lemongrss sauce, and mashed sweet potato with coconut. The wine was a viognier from the Loire valley, and desserts... were sinful and ought not be allowed. I had a tasting sampler: two bite-sized tangerine tarts, a small slice of pistachio-orange cake, a tiny creme brulee, and a doll-sized scoop of White Mocha Ice Cream. And then I fell over and died.
I will not eat again until Tuesday.
Meanwhile we rediscovered an interesting fact -- Boomer adores my dad. My dad adores Boomer. If only they could have a cat in their apartment... well, no I wouldn't give him up. But we're already planning play-dates. :-)
And now, interlude over, back to the chaos which is eating my brain, although in a good and productive way. I had actually done the "things I've lived through" meme, but LJ ate it, and I'm too lazy to do it again right now.
