Can o' whupass is open. Pages are bleeding. Author is fortifying herself for the next section, which is where things start to sag.

1. This is making the rounds again, for those of you who've missed it, and those of you (us) who need to let go of a little of those natural animal urges (because we all have 'em, and you can either hug them tight until they strangle you, or let them go and laugh at them...)
The Book of My Enemy Has Been Remaindered )

2. I am feeling gleeful and superior 'cause I'm getting to read the next Flewelling before the rest of you. Neener neener. [hides her pages before she can get mugged]

3. The heat in my building came up this morning. Note to others: now is the time to move things away from the radiators (in my case: plants).

4. I love my family. I passed up the offer of a Giants ticket because I'd already made plans to spend the afternoon with them. I hope to hell they appreciate it.

5. I actually took a break from working last night to be interact with humans. Y'know, I have closed down a lot of places in my life, but never before a Starbucks. That was... bizarre (also: is a skinny vanilla latte totally a chick thing? Do I lose machisma points? Settle the debate, people!)

Some of you may remember this post, back in August, about a mythology & legends project I'd written for that was, um, not timely with either publication or payment.

Publication occured, I know this because they sent me the books (after several rounds on the phone).

Payment, due on publication, has not yet arrived.

Tomorrow morning I will be on the phone with the publisher once again, countersigned contract on the desk in front of me, inquiring as to the status of said payment. Until that payment arrives, they will hear from me on a regular basis, both via the phone and registered mail.

If anyone else out there who contributed has a) not gotten a copy of the book and/or b) not gotten their paycheck, please contact me off-journal. Likewise, if you HAVE gotten paid, please let me know.

Production and publication delays are an unfortunate but understandable part of the business. Stiffing contractors is NOT.

Meanwhile, my entire workspace is covered with post-its. Seriously. Desk, monitor, media case.... the cats have fled otherwise they would be likewise... (actually, no. Post-its, unlike bacon, do not stick to cat-fur)

Fortunately, we also have -- much to my surprise -- mousers. Every time he (a wee little field mouse the size of my little finger) tried to make a scoot for it, there was a cat, tail erect and whiskers a-quiver, trying to play. Or nosh. I'm not sure which Boomer had in mind. Pandora was definitely all about the noshing.

Poor Mousie.

He disappeared, and has not shown himself since then (and the cats, while occasionally sniffing where he was, are distinctly incurious). As I said when retelling the story "mice, I can deal with. Mice are no big deal." I did go through the pantry and make sure that everything was properly stored in containers and bags, though.

(As there has been no mouse-sign previous, I suspect that he was flushed out via the radiator when the heat came on, and, upon discovering himself in an apartment cornered by two rather inquisitive and paw-y cats, thought "I knew I shoulda made a left at Pismo Beach." He really should have -- this is a cat-heavy building. But in case he didn't get the lesson, O. the super Super will be Dealing With It this week.)
--------
EtA: at 10:45, about seven hours after first sighting, very wee mousie was spotted by Pandora. It was either very ill or quite terrified, as it stayed still while Pandora sniffed at it, long enough for me to get an old tupperware container and lid and scoop it up. Once captured, it stayed quite passive, and I brought it downstairs and across the street, where I released it into the wooded area.

What, you thought I was going to kill it? Have you met me?

Hopefully this was Sole Mousie.
