Dec. 23rd, 2006

lauraanne_gilman: (brain. hurts.)
Was up and out the door early today to go down into NYC. For a few days before Christmas, it wasn't too insane... mainly because all the folk who work there were fleeing early, so the population balanced out. Or maybe it was just because I avoided Midtown...

Anyway, ran some errands, then went downtown to meet a non-LJ friend for lunch and present exchange, then went uptown to catch up with [livejournal.com profile] koimistress, [livejournal.com profile] terri_osborne, and [livejournal.com profile] kradical for a second lunch (hobbits, ho!) and then further uptown to have dinner with my folks, my sister, and her new beau, who is delightful and I think she should keep him. ;-D

And thus, replete with steak and red wine and this killer chocolate mousse, cake and whiped cream thing my mom makes, I staggered back homeward, pausing to admire the sight of Grand Central Station at Christmastime...

the annual light show... )

And then the day got rounded out by the discovery that Someone who has in the past two years dissed me, cut me in public, refused all social overtures without bothering to tell me what I did to cause this chage from a former friendship, and has reportedly been badmouthing me in other quarters, has sent me a holiday card, complete with 2006 round-up letter.

I am really not sure if I'm amused or disgusted. Amugusted? Needless to say, it did not join the others in being displayed. You don't get to tell me by words and actions that you don't value me, and then brag about your year. Because honestly? I no longer care.

(on the other hand, got several year-end round up letters that not only delighted me, but have been tacked to my fridge, because they make me smile. It's all in the emotion behind them, I guess...)

Tomorrow, I must Write. And Pack. And spend quality time with the felines, in advance of Abandoning! Them to Cruel Fate! And April the Cat-Sitter.

I saw this in so many places it eventually wore me down...

You Are Blitzen

Always in good spirits, you're the reindeer who loves to party down with Santa.

Why You're Naughty: You're always blitzed on Christmas Eve, while flying!

Why You're Nice: You mix up a mean eggnog martini.

Oh, and I forgot to mention in my last post - on the train down we were assaulted entertained by the von Trapp family singers. Okay, maybe they weren't a family. But they were teens, and they did have a guitar, and they did insist on singing. It is a credit to the holiday spirit that nobody broke said guitar over thier heads. Children, it was Early in the Morning. Most of us were still sucking down the coffee. Cheerful sing-alongs? Not what we were in the mood for, no matter how cute you thought you were being... Thankfully, they got the mesage, or lost interest, and we only had to deal with it for a handful of tunes...
