Happy Samhain, Happy Halloweeen, Happy Last Day of the Month, however you choose to observe it, may it be a safe and well-omened eve!

(my costume? old jeans, old ripped shirt, beat-up boots, mildly goth makeup and feathers braided into my hair... I'm Something That Cat Dragged In!)

"Buy more candy" my boss said.

"Buy more candy" the woman at the local bodega advised.

I should have bought MORE more candy.

That said, an excellent Halloween. Great weather, lots of cute kids in costumes, lots of teenagers from all the local neighborhoods, some in costume, some brazening it out in sweats (I made them say "trick or treat" extra loud. If they want candy they have to work for it). My downstairs neighbors and I sat on the porch and drank wine and handed out candy and exchanged stories of Halloweens past (and I finally learned what our landlords had been thinking when they painted the house pink).

And one Hispanic couple with their young kids who got extra candy, because mom and dad were in drag. For a Hispanic guy to show up in front of his son wearing a sparkly purple wig, skirt and shoes to match? He's earned his chocolate!

Next year? More candy.

Tomorrow I pack up and head out to WFC, and a few days of vacation after. Y'all play nice, don't redecorate too horribly, and I'll see some of you on Thursday, and the rest of you on the 8th....
