mid-Worldcon
Aug. 26th, 2006 06:30 amThanks to everyone who sent out birthday wishes. Much appreciated. Had an excellent celebration in the bar last night, and still have a few promised drinks to collect. :-) I also got various birthday presents, the most touching of which was
ferragus's SPF 50,000 suntan lotion (a continuing enticement to move my sunlight-averse self to the Southwest).
Yesterday was pretty busy -- the klatch and the signing went quite well (i.e. people showed up. To see me, even!) and while the "Censorship" panel didn't end up in fisticuffs, it wasn't for a lack of trying on the part of the panelists! I toured the dealer's room and was tempted by various items, but saved by the fact that a) one was out of my budget-reality (a gorgeous hand-crafted feathered mask) and b) the other (a lovely one-of-a-kind ring) didn't quite fit. I didn't even let myself go near the Opal Guy's table.
Stopped by the Eos party pre-birthday bash, having to duck past the disturbing sight of the "American Miss" kiddy pagent, including wee-sized contestants being escorted by grown men in tuxes. *shudder* Had a fascinating dscussion with Bob Silverberg and Tim Powers about the relative truths of religion. And why Silverbob and I aren't going to hell, but Tim probably is. Really!
And then went to bed at the rediculously early hour of midnight. Sheeesh. I AM old.
Today's also a full day, with panels and a signing at the SFWA table and whatnot. But first, to the gym!
