woke up this morning to a familiar lack of sound -- the almost total silence of an early morning nor'easter.

And then a low, rolling booom made me think "thunder?"

Nah, must be a Very Brave Snowplow trying to get through.

But nope, it was indeed thunder.

Thundersnow! Mother Nature's so very very cool.

Otherwise, looks to be a classic nor'easter. Anywhere from 8-12 inches forecast for our town, maybe more by the time it's all over. Thankfully, the timing of this storm means that most of us can stay indoors sans guilt, and let the plows and whatnot do their job. So let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

UPDATE: 26.9 inches in Central park. It's an Official Record

UPDATE #2: The plows are here! The plows are here!

My mom (she who does not have an LJ...yet) reports they're reporting 22.8" in Central Park. My dad's already predicting Historic Storm status (they've just confirmed that on the news -- second worst storm, so far).

The guys shoveling out their cars outside are up to their hip bones when they step off the curb, so we're estimating at least a foot, probably closer to 16" here.

Anyone else got reportage to report?
