Superbowl!

UPDATE: there were a lot of great commercials, but I think top props must be given to Budweiser, first for the 'streaker' ad, and then the "I Die From Teh Cute" award for the 'I won't tell if you won't' commercial, which had me clutching my insulin and howling.

I know, it's much more trendy to mock the Superbowl as overblown hype, claim that you're only watching it to see what commercials they show, who has a 'wardrobe malfunction' this year, etc.

Me? I happen to enjoy watching the game. Football can be, when the teams are evenly matched, an excelllent way to spend a few hours, watching plays unfold and either fail or succeed, see people rise above normal phyiscal limitations to make impossible throws or incredible catches, to suddenly become so agile that three or four or five trained professionals can't bring them down, and, yeah, to look for the commercial that will be this year's 'cat herding' media wonder.

(I could skip the entire halftime show, tho. Stones or no Stones.)

Oh, yeah. And to eat chili and drink beer and generally forget all about the work that needs doing for a few hours. That's good, too.

So to both the Steelers and Seahawks: Good luck, guys, and may the best team prevail.

And an "about damn time!" shoutout to Harry Carson -- Hall of Fame, here you come! Yeah, it's about a decade later that it should have been. Screw 'em. We knew you belonged there all along.

Sad (color) commentary...

I'm away-from-keyboard for the next 24 hours, and the last e-mail I send out? A gentle reminder (okay, a demand) for regular updates on today's Test Match scores.

Arrrgh.

[livejournal.com profile] karentraviss and [livejournal.com profile] agamisu are laughing right about now. Hard.

It's not that I care about the results, really, except as reasonable self-interest dictates. (*innocent blink*) But there's all this stuff about the game I don't understand, yet, and that drive me crazy(er). So I have to follow along, at least until i can take it in at a glance and know a) what's going on, b) why and c) who I can tease, and who I need to console.

It's suri's law of sporting events. :-)
